چکیده

The IEEE 802.11-based wireless LAN is currently a primary enabling technology for ubiquitous data access to data networks with a reasonably high bandwidth. Traditionally, 802.11-based wirelesses LANs are deployed in the infrastructure mode. Here, access points (AP) are deployed to cover a region and they are connected to a backbone distribution system (DS). A client device, such as a laptop or palmtop with an 802.11 interface, associates itself to an AP. APs connect to an infrastructure network (e.g., the Internet or an intranet) via the distribution system. The distribution system is usually a wired network, even though options exist in the standards for provisioning a wireless distribution system or WDS, where the APs are connected via wireless links.

Extension of Basic Service Set by Multihop Routing in IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN Standard

In this paper, a multihop routing extension to IEEE 802.11 is presented. Multihop extension preserves the traditional single-hop networks where the service infrastructure is constructed by many access points but it also adds the flexibility of ad hoc networks where wireless transfer through mobile stations is allowed in multiple hop. Multihop extension can reduce the number of required access p...

Capacity Enhancement in Hybrid Wireless Relay Network with Network Coding

Network coding technique increases wireless network communication efficiency. Wireless multihop relay network has been shown to achieve capacity gain over conventional single-hop wireless networks. Hybrid wireless relay networks integrate multihop ad hoc relay and infrastructure base stations to achieve better wireless network performance. Applying the promising network coding technique to hybr...

Power Controlled Routing in Wireless Ad-hoc Networks for Higher End-to-End Bandwidth

Due to development of computer and network technologies, mobile computer networks have become widely available. Since mobile computers such as handheld PCs and PDAs and mobile sensor nodes which are required to be small and light weight have only limited battery capacity, a radius of a wireless signal transmission range is also limited. In order to achieve higher connectivity even though a netw...

Does the IEEE 802.11 MAC Protocol Work Well in Multihop Wireless Ad Hoc Networks?

The IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol is the standard for wireless LANs; it is widely used in testbeds and simulations for wireless multihop ad hoc networks. However, this protocol was not designed for multihop networks. Although it can support some ad hoc network architecture, it is not intended to support the wireless mobile ad hoc network, in which multihop connectivity is one of the most prominent f...

Profit-Based Routing for Multihop Coverage Extension in Wireless Networks

In future wireless systems, the coverage of a base station will decrease due to the characteristics of the channel at high-frequency bands. To expand the service coverage, a hybrid network that combines an ad hoc network with a cellular (or wireless LAN) network, appears to have great potential. In such systems, some mobile users outside the service area can access the network with the aid of o...
